Instagram Reels Can Now Be Up to 3 Minutes Long!

Instagram just made a big change: you can now upload Reels up to 3 minutes long! This is double the previous limit of 90 seconds, and Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, announced it’s all thanks to user feedback. Apparently, many users felt 90 seconds wasn’t enough time to share their stories.

This is an interesting shift for Instagram. Just last year, Mosseri said they wouldn’t focus on longer videos because it might take away from Instagram’s main goal of connecting people with friends. But it seems like user demand has changed their minds!

This move also puts Instagram on par with TikTok, which started allowing 3-minute videos back in 2021. It’s worth noting that TikTok is facing a potential ban in the US, so this timing might work in Instagram’s favor.

Instagram has been pretty slow to extend the time limit for Reels. It’s been over two years since they bumped it up to 90 seconds, and while they’ve tested allowing videos as long as 10 minutes, they’re not rolling that out just yet. For now, longer videos are still reserved for regular posts outside of Reels.
